Living Jesus . . . . A CALL TO HOLINESS!

Building a House of Prayer

We are gathered together to celebrate the dedication of a house of prayer. This is our house of prayer; but we too are a house of God. If we are a house of God, its construction goes on in time so that it may be dedicated at the end of time. The house, in its construction, involved hard work, while its dedication is an occasion for rejoicing.

-taken from sermon 336 by Saint Augustine

As members of the household of God, the community of St. Mary Parish radiates the joys and blessings which God has bestowed upon us for the past 100 years! The presence of God in our midst has been constructing us and forming us into God’s holy people for a century. St. Mary Parish has grown from a single cornerstone in 1905 to the thriving parish community it is today.

Our ancestors were inspired to build this house of prayer and came together to dedicate the Church on November 30, 1905. The Spirit of God is empowering us to carry out their mission and vision of embracing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We honored their enthusiasm and memory during our year-long celebration. Archbishop Timothy M. Dolan, Archbishop of Milwaukee, inaugurated our 100th Anniversary of the Dedication of the church with a liturgy on the first Sunday of Advent (November 27, 2005), challenging us to remember the presence of God to this community of faith in the past, present and future. Bishop Richard J. Sklba, Auxiliary Bishop of Milwaukee, concluded our 100th anniversary year on the Feast of Christ King (November 26, 2006), sealing our time capsule which holds many memories for our future generation to look back on. With the help of God, we look forward to another 100 years of building community and serving the people of the Menomonee Falls area.

Through our call to Holiness, the Spirit of God has blessed us and multiplied us throughout the parish’s 100 years of hard work and dedication. But we’ve only just begun. There is still more work that lies ahead. May the Spirit of God, who has begun a good work in the people of St. Mary Parish, bring it to completion!

Gratefully in Christ,

Fr. Greg
