Music Ministry opportunities at St. Mary Parish
CHORALIS MARIS STELLA* is the adult choir of St. Mary Parish. Choralis Maris Stella leads the assembly in a variety of musical styles each weekend. Mass schedule varies. Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. in the east wing of church. No previous musical experience is required, but singers do need to match pitch. All singers and instrumentalists from high school age through adulthood are welcome!
* Choralis Maris Stella is the new name given to our Adult Choir at St. Mary Church. It is a Latin name, meaning “Choir of Mary,” appropriately named after Jesus’ mother, Mary, patroness of our parish.
Maris Stella is an ancient name for the Blessed Mother which dates to the ninth century. Maris Stella literally means “Star of the Sea.” This title was used to emphasize Mary's role as a sign of hope and as a guiding star for Christians.
LAUDATION is a musical ensemble also for singers and instrumentalists from high school age through adulthood. This group leads the assembly in musical prayer every-other week (either Saturdays at 5:00 or Sundays at 10:30) with electric guitar and electronic keyboard.
Rehearsals are an hour immediately prior to each Mass. No previous musical experience is required, but singers do need to match pitch. All singers and instrumentalists welcome**!
**No other guitar players or keyboard players needed in this group at this time, but we would love to add a bass player and percussionist.
S.O. (Sing Out) is a musical ensemble for children and teens in grades 4 through 8. This group rehearses every other Sunday at 9:00 a.m., immediately prior to the 10:30 a.m. Mass, where they lead the assembly in musical prayer. No previous musical experience is required; but singers do need to match pitch. All singers and instrumentalists are welcome!
The RESURRECTION CHOIR leads the assembly in a more traditional style of music for funerals and also for some weekend liturgies. Rehearsals are the 2nd Thursday of the month at 10:00 a.m. in the church. This choir also leads assembly singing at 8:00 a.m. Mass on the Sunday after rehearsal, once per month. No previous musical experience is necessary, but singers do need to match pitch. All singers and instrumentalists are welcome!
Cantors proclaim the psalms at Masses and lead assembly singing. Strong vocal music skills are necessary, along with the ability to solo. Vocalists young and old are encouraged to answer the call to this ministry.
Choirs do not meet or rehearse during the summer months of June through August.
